by Mary Jane West-Eberhard
I’m going to publish notes on this book, I’ll have a post for each chapter, the order will be off at first cause I’ve already started the book.
I think this book is important. I have previously read Evolution in Four Dimensions: Genetic, Epigenetic, Behavioral, and Symbolic Variation in the History of Life (Life and Mind: Philosophical Issues in Biology and Psychology) by Eva Jablonka and Marion J. Lamb. Although the issues involved are real I never liked the transgenetic conclusion of the book as there is no alternative mechanism discussed. In Dr. West-Eberhard’s book I feel that an actual mechanism is presented and one that fits firmly into our present understanding of Darwinian evolution.
